With those big rapids you need a bigger raft ( 8-10 persons) so you do not flip over;

Depends on water level, and which section you run. Definitely several no matter what and they're BIG!
And that's why I'm NEVER going to do white water rafting. It's fun to watch the videos, though. I'll stick to flat water.
Fair enough, though I will say that you're missing out. I wouldn't make this river the first rafting experience of your life, but there are a lot of Class II-III rivers that are beautiful, fun, and a whole lot less intense than this :)

Hmmm. 4 paddling on the right, 2 on the left, and the boat turns left…go figure. More Rons.
Not to nitpick this comment, but a couple of points. First, guy in the back right is guiding which involves J-stroking, back-stroking, and paddling to steer the raft while other paddlers are supposed to supply the power. So it's 3 on one side, 2 on the other. Second, the boat was doing just fine until it didn't quite tee up to the diagonal which shot it sideways and at that point, the imbalance of paddlers compounded the issue. Finally, while the goal isn't to dump anyone into the river, this rapid has a nice chill run out and is a great place to try to go big as consequences of a swim are minimal. Have a good one.

You forget how much better newer gopros are with their stabilization until you see a video filmed on an old one
I couldn't believe how smooth the Hero8's footage was when I took it out mountain biking. It really is amazing how far it's come. Pretty sure I shot this with the Hero4.
But the old ones captured the full extent of ferocity of rapids and currents. New ones are like motor sport cameras, everything looks dull
@@TheDazzler420 True, the rattle from the old ones does have an intensity to it. I used a Hero3 on the Gauley a while ago and then came back with the 7 and its stabilization.

We all voted as a raft on wanting to hit the boat eating waves of some of those rapids knowing there was a 90% chance of flipping. Figured I'll probably only get to raft it once, don't wanna take the sneak lines.

I am in awe of the synchronicity of this team, when the man says "RIGHT" everyone instantly paddles right. And doing this rafting probably on a near weekly basis, I bet this river has zero secrets for the guide. Very well done!
Amazing as per usual! Looks like a lot of fun... Did you feel restricted with the f/4 lenses? I have a Sony A7ii and I'm trying to figure out what lenses I should be looking at. Currently running a 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6.
Totally depends. For this particular project, I took advantage of a Nikon promotional where you could rent a whole kit for $100 for a week, so that’s why I went with the f/4 lens. Most of the footage was shot with good natural light so it wasn’t an issue but certainly there are better options if you intend to shoot in low light. I know Nikon has a 24-70mm f/2.8 which would be superior but also pricier and heavier. Just depends what your budget and intentions are!

Ahh, Oblivion, the one that took my manhood. Too bad the sound is muted, the roar of oncoming rapids is something to behold. Excellent video, brought back some unwanted memories I thought I locked down forever.
Yeah Oblivion is huuuuge! Sound isn't even muted, GoPro just sucks at giving sound how it actually is. It truly is a deafening roar!

Cool dude. That 2 story house above chinaman's is my uncles. I live on south hill. I watch the river every day. froze over now. deer are crossing on the ice at the mouth. In the next 3-4 weeks the Umatilla is going to rip. I'll stop buy and say hi when I see you. Damn I don't have a full skirt for my yak.
